Huntsman Staffer “Sick And Sad” For The GOP After Debate Behavior

Rick Perry isn’t the only Republican who was “taken aback” by the reaction of some in Monday night’s GOP debate to the idea of letting a sick man without insurance die.

Sarah Reidy, the national director of scheduling for John Huntsman’s presidential campaign has also reacted harshly over this and similar outbursts, posting on her Facebook page that the behavior made her “sick and sad” for the Republican party.

Reidy went on: “For years I have tried to prove that the GOP isn’t the Party of elitist, stereotypical people that lack compassion. When did creativity and growth become secondary to hate? Hearing the debate crowds go crazy over things like executions and the uninsured dying makes me sick and sad for my Party.”

In an interview with The Ticket, Reidy said that she is not alone in expressing this sentiment within Republican circles, commenting “It’s a general frustration I hear among friends across the party.”

Update - Sept 14, 12:51pm - An earlier version of this post accidentally used “is” rather than “isn’t” in a quote by Reidy. That’s now been amended. The thrust of the piece remains the same.
