Michele Bachmann Cribs From Mitt Romney On Immigration (VIDEO)

Michelle Bachmann is just out with her newest web video, this one attacking Rick Perry for saying people who believe the children of illegal immigrants brought to America against their control shouldn’t be allowed to pay in-state tuition don’t have “a heart.”

For observers paying close attention to another of Bachmann’s rivals, Mitt Romney, the new video sounds very familiar.

Here’s Bachmann:

Last week we conservatives were accused of not having a heart. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s just that we have a mind to go with that heart and failing to act rationally under the rule of law has created chaos on our borders.

Here’s the video, released Friday:

And here’s Mitt Romney at CPAC Florida last Friday:

My friend Governor Perry said that if you don’t agree with his position on giving in-state tuition to illegals, that you don’t have a heard. I think if you’re opposed to illegal immigration, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have a heart. It means that you have a heart and a brain.

Some video of that:

Interestingly, the “full text” the Bachmann campaign sent around to reporters Friday didn’t include the “mind to go with that heart” line. Here’s what they sent:

Illegal immigration is a problem in the United States and unfortunately the federal government has failed us all to often. We have a narcoterrorism war on our southern border. As President of the United States I will build the fence - every mile, every yard, every foot, every inch. American needs to have its southern border protected. I will also fully resource our border security guards. I will tell them, ‘If you uphold the law, we will have your back.’ I’ll do the same for our ICE agents and the interior of the United States as well. For too long our laws on the books haven’t been enforced. The problem isn’t the laws; the problem has been the politicians. I will stand behind our laws and stand behind our agents, and I’ll have their back. Also as President, I’ll make sure we no longer enforce or support policies that act as magnets to bring illegal aliens into the United States. We need to stop taxpayer subsidies to illegal aliens. As President of the United States, you have my word; I will solve the problem of illegal aliens.

TPM asked Team Bachmann for comment:

“No she did not refer to Romney’s speech, it was her own speech,” spokesperson Alice Stewart said.
