A Half-Hour Before Her Scheduled Speech, Bachmann Camp Talks Up Her ‘Standing-Room Only Crowd’

Michelle Bachmann was the highlight of the scheduled evening session at the Values Voter Summit in Washington Friday.

And thirty minutes before Bachmann stepped on stage or said a word — and the ballroom at the Omni Shoreham here was half-full at best — Bachmann’s presidential campaign was expecting her to be a hit.

From a campaign press release of Bachmann’s excerpted remarks sent to reporters around 7:00 PM:

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann spoke from the heart to a standing-room only crowd at the Values Voter Summit hosted by the Family Research Council in Washington D.C. Bachmann addressed the vital issues of limited government, reduced spending, traditional values, and strong national defense. She also acknowledged our Founding Fathers for shaping the liberties we enjoy today.

Rick Perry’s speech earlier Friday didn’t fill up the massive ballroom. Herman Cain got more people later in the afternoon, but there were still some seats to be found. Who knows? Maybe Bachmann’s speech will be as packed as her staff predicted. We’ll have to see.

Late update: Bachmann’s speech is underway, and there are plenty of seats up front. To be fair, it looks like there are a few people standing in the back. Photo here.
