CHART OF THE DAY: The IRS Is More Popular Than Congress

CHART OF THE DAY: The IRS Is More Popular Than Congress

The public’s approval of Congress is at all-time lows, and Democrats — despite controlling half the legislative branch — enjoy reminding Republicans of that fact at every opportunity.

Here’s the latest example, from the office of Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) and presented in amusing chart form:

2012, Congress
Evan McMorris-Santoro

Evan McMorris-Santoro has covered politics for TPM since 2009. Before that, he was a reporter at National Journal’s Hotline covering election 2008. He started his career covering local politics at newspapers in TN and his native NC.

That's because Michele Bachmann used to be with the IRS, now she's with Congress. Do the math.

And things more popular than the GOP congress:

Getting Nailes Pulled Out with Pliars

Serial Killers

Sound of Chalk on Blackboard

Pauly Shore

The Smell of Other Peoples Farts

Running Full Steam into Brick Walls

Some others: Alcoholic enemas (butt chugging), legalizing prostitution, self-flagellation (cutting or burning) among US college students (self-reporting incidence rate of 9.8%), siberian throat singing, YouTube videos of monkeys eating their own poop...

This country is heading for it's own Tahrir Square moment. We are historically at the point in which people will start to think maybe a dictator wouldn't be so bad.

When I joined the Army, and again when I worked as a civilian contractor for the Air Force, I had to pledge to defend my country against ALL enemies, both foreign and domestic. It would seem to me that Grover Norquist is an enemy as he wants to make the government so small it can be drown in a bathtub. The same with the Republicans that follow his pledge. They did, after all, take much the same oath that I did.

So how many things that Congress has done over the last 2-3 years go along with what the American people WANT?

Jobs. Taxes on the wealthy. Corporations to pay taxes. End to subsidies for industries such as the oil and gas industries. End to polarizing partisanship. End to constant caving by the Democrats. A Senate that has bills held up by ONE PERSON. Etc. Getting rid of the tea party and Grover Nyquist.

Perhaps, we'll get another uproar.

As soon as the super committee fails, which it will, their rating will fall to last place. Plus our credit rating will be cut again as soon as the sequestration is voted out. They are already talking about doing it. Then Boner will concentrate on closing down the govt again. This will be right about mid December. The FAA deal will fail in December because the repugs left in the anti-collective bargaining clause. It never ends with their stupidity and obstruction. Imagine if they get control of the Senate, too. Obama will be a left with his veto pen for four years.

kenmor The duper committee failing and the bipartisan efforts to overturn the sequestration being blocked is the best outcome. We need across the board reductions and time is getting short to do so.

The republicans that signed Grover Norquist pledge should be tried for treason. Putting one "random" man's pledge above the wishes of the majority American people is unforgivable.

If found guilty banned from politics for the rest of their lives.

firenze_30fps 546 pts

kingofbeer you sound like one of those idiot Bush cultists who thought that anyone who didn't support our Awesomest War Ever in Iraq should be tried for treason.

How about everyone knock off the 'treason' shit and save it for actual cases of treason, not mere policy differences.

How about "painful genital herpes"? Would that poll worse than Congress?

Dumbest Congress ever. Boehner is a jackass, do nothing POS.

mike valentine Well, one caucus is the dumbest ever, anyway...

Congress tied with Chavez? That is bad, given the bewildering amount of American energy invested in demonizing Chavez.

But yet 85% or more of those running for reelection will be sent back. Forget which side you support, that's mind boggling isn't it?

Flying Squid 23795 pts

truth-spin People rarely think THEIR congressperson is the problem. Just everyone else's.

Flying Squid And everyone else gets pork while here in this district we only get important, well deserved jobs and projects...

The public gets what is deserved and not much will change until, well, I honestly don't know when.

Hey, we finally agree on something :-)

I'll tell you when: Constitutional amendment ridding corporations of personhood and/or tying the right to donate to campaigns/lobby to the right to vote.

Flying Squidtruth-spin Not only that; most districts are gerrymandered to be safe for the incumbent. We need a less partisan process for drawing district lines.

That photo has five reasons for why Congress' approval rating is in the toilet.

Congressman Orange is leading the way, flanked by Beaker with Cartman lurking in the background, watching for Hippies and Mr. 'Not Intended to Be a Factual Statement' bringing up the rear.

When Congress' approval get to 1%, that will be about just right. That is who they serve after all is the 1% They are laughably (or is that frighteningly)close to that number.

I think the fact that more Americans want a communist revolution than like congress is much more telling.

fargo117 1371 pts

@Flying Squid
The weird part is that if you look at the Soviet Union, a communist revolution didn't work either.
