Stephen Colbert on Monday gave Newt Gingrich a big tip of his hat for thinking up new ways to scare America.
Namely, the threat of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP): a nuclear device, detonated at a high altitude that would knock out all electronic devices in a huge area. That would lead to the “unthinkable,” Colbert said: “We would have to listen to those Amish bastards say ‘we told ye so.’”
But Newt’s not the only one afraid of an “EMP-mageddon.” So is James Bond. “Yes, Bond. James Bond agrees with Gingrich. Newt Gingrich. And just like Bond, Gingrich is calm under pressure, a little cocky and is frequently seen with different leading ladies.”
Gingrich’s lunar-oriented proposals sound a lot like the plots of “Moonraker” and “Die Another Day.” “It just occured to me,” Colbert said. “All of those schemes were from the villains!”
