Restore Our Future Hits Gingrich Hard In New Ad

Presidential Candidate And Former Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA)

Pro-Romney Super PAC Restore Our Future posted a new ad on their YouTube channel Thursday evening slamming Newt Gingrich with a laundry list of “baggage.”

President Obama, the ad claims, is attacking Romney because Newt would be a weaker candidate in the general election. The 102-second spot goes onto to highlight everything from his ethics violations and Freddie Mac consulting fees to his positions on “amnesty” for undocumented immigrants and the individual mandate. The ad ends by directing viewers to NewtFacts.com. When TPM visited the site Thursday evening, it was not yet ready and required a username and password to enter.

Restore Our Future had its first ad up on the airwaves Thursday morning as part of a massive $3.1 million ad buy on Iowa TV and radio. This ad is presumably next. The first ad was timed to go up just as the Romney campaign launched an assault on Gingrich which included using surrogates to attack Gingrich’s record and character.

Interestingly, whereas the first ad didn’t mention Newt and instead played up Romney’s business credentials, the second had is all about attacking the new frontrunner. This seems more in line with the role a Super PAC typically plays, doing a campaign’s dirty work while the actual campaign tries to keep clean. So far, Newt has refused to go negative, even making it a highlight of his campaign.
