Stephen Colbert spent the weekend with the good folks at the National Rifle Association conference. “It is a four day celebration of guns for the whole family,” Colbert said on Monday. The star-studded event featured America’s gun-loving politicians … and Mitt Romney. But Newt Gingrich really stole the show, calling for a universal right to bear arms. That’s not all. The second amendment is a right guaranteed by God, not the government, Gingrich said.
“Guns are the work of an omniscient creator,” Colbert said. “Why else would they perfectly fit into a human hand?”
Shouldn’t Gingrich, who is a proponent of a U.S. lunar colony, also address gun rights on the moon? After all, Colbert said, “a crescent moon is nothing but a full moon wearing a hood.”
