Brown Campaign: Senator ‘Misspoke’ About Meeting Kings And Queens

Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA)

Republican Sen. Scott Brown’s latest headache in the Massachusetts Senate race is a comment he made touting his work on foreign policy — including covert meetings with royalty.

The Boston Globe reported that Brown said in a radio interview: “Each and every day that I’ve been a United States senator, I’ve been either discussing issues, meeting on issues, in secret meetings — with kings and queens and prime ministers and business leaders and military leaders — talking, voting, working on issues every single day.”

The Brown campaign quickly backtracked once the remarks caught fire. Spokesman Colin Reed told reporters: “Sen. Brown was referring generally to private meetings with foreign and domestic leaders. He misspoke when he said kings and queens.”

Of course, the state Democrats are pouncing — and posting the audio on YouTube:

“If Scott Brown rests the substance of his campaign on meeting with royalty, he should tell the people of Massachusetts who he met with and what they talked about,” said a statement from Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman John Walsh.

“I had no idea Scott Brown was friends with so many kings and queens — I bet Massachusetts families didn’t know either. And they still don’t know his explanation for protecting Wall Street, Big Oil and tax breaks for billionaires.”
