Colbert Mocks Mitt’s Foreign Trip: ‘Keep Up The Charm Offensive!’

Stephen Colbert

London’s Olympic Games are attracting visitors from all over the world. Including, Stephen Colbert said Thursday, America’s “crown prince of running for president,” Mitt Romney.

But Romney’s first foreign trip as a presidential candidate got off to a rocky start after he questioned London’s readiness to host the Olympic Games. British Prime Minister David Cameron, London Mayor Borris Johnson and pretty much the entire UK press didn’t take too well to those comments. In an allusion to the Salt Lake City Olympics Romney ran in 2002, Cameron said: “We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest most active bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course it’s easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere.”

Not so fast, Colbert said. “Hey, buddy. Utah’s not in the middle of nowhere. It’s in the northwest corner of nowhere. Get your geography straight, Dr. Who.”

Colbert urged Romney to “stay strong.”

“Remember, your next stop is Israel. Keep up the charm offensive. I say you open your speech to the Knesset with, ‘America will always stand behind you and so will Jesus Christ. Now where can a boy get some baby-back ribs in Palestine?’”
