Illinois Rep. Bobby Schilling Donating Akin Money To Charity

Rep. Bobby Schilling, Illinois

Rep. Bobby Schilling (R-IL) is donating the $2,000 he received in the 2010 cycle from Missouri Rep. Todd Akin’s leadership PAC, “Takin Back America,” to charity in the wake of Akin’s remarks about “legitimate rape” and false claims that rape victims cannot get pregnant. Akin’s comments have caused virtually the whole Republican Party to call on him to drop out of the Missouri Senate race.

“The statements made by Rep. Todd Akin over the weekend do not come anywhere close to reflecting my values. They were wrong and inexcusable,” Schilling said in a statement Tuesday. “In light of these deplorable comments, my family and I decided yesterday to donate a $2,000 contribution we received from Rep. Akin’s leadership PAC in 2010 to the Rock Island County Children’s Advocacy Center.

“As a father, a husband, and a close friend to people who have been scarred by the evils of rape, I could never stand with someone who said something so contrary to our basic human values.”

Rep. Denny Rehberg, the GOP nominee for Senate in Montana, is also donating money he received from Akin’s PAC for the 2012 cycle.
