Romney: I Have Paid My Taxes, ‘Harry Is Wrong’

This post has been updated.

In a rare press availability Friday, Mitt Romney took aim at Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), who for days has been hammering Romney to release more of his tax returns, while claiming he has secret information that Romney went 10 years without having to pay any taxes.

“I have paid taxes every year, and a lot of taxes,” Romney said. “So Harry is simply wrong.”

Over the past week, Reid repeatedly claimed to talked to a client of Romney’s Bain Capital with knowledge of Romney’s tax history who told him the presumptive GOP nominee didn’t pay federal income taxes for 10 years. Reid has declined to reveal the name of his purported source, one the one hand calling the source “extremely credible” and on the other hand freely admitting he has no idea if what his source is saying is true.

At the press avail, Romney repeated his call for Reid to divulge his source, doubling down on his suggestion that the White House is behind Reid’s accusations.
