Jon Stewart On Romney’s Foreign Policy: ‘Follow Me! I’ll Be Right Behind The President’

Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart couldn’t help but notice President Obama and Mitt Romney agreed on an awful lot during the final presidential debate focusing on foreign policy: crippling sanctions for Iran and withdrawal from Afghanistan by the end of 2014, to name two.

“Gov. Mitt Romney appears to have made the calculated decision that his bellicose and hawkish performances in the Republican primaries would be less appreciated by ‘the normals,’” Stewart said on Tuesday. “Here’s the crazy part. After basically casting off what were months and weeks ago his bedrock principles and beliefs to copy Obama’s policy positions in a transparently cynical appeal to moderate undecideds, guess which quality Romney chose to highlight as the difference between the two men?

That would be leadership. “Follow me! I’ll be right behind the president,” Stewart mocked.

“All in all, last night made a fine conclusion, though, to the trilogy of debates. Between the two candidates, sincere belief in a peaceful world and their eager acceptance of remote-controlled hellfire drones to achieve that end.”
